Rebel 8.0 was the first chess program in the world that supports chess by email. On the Internet several organizations are active providing people to play chess all over the world done by email.

The advantages are clear:
  • You always have an opponent.
  • Many users play 5-10 games at the same time.
  • No stamps are needed anymore.
  • No long response times, it sometimes happens that if you email your next move to your opponent you get the reply the same day! This is one of the main reasons why chess by email has become so popular.

Because of this Rebel 8.0 contains software to make your email life much more comfortable. Here is some information about organizations active on the Internet with email chess.

The International Email Chess Group (IECG) is the premier and largest email chess organization in the world. The IECG provides Internet users with the opportunity to play rated email chess games with people all over the world for free.If you are not familiar with chess by email visit the IECG now

The International Email Chess Club [IECC] provides chess players with access to the opportunity to play rated email chess games with people all over the world in a friendly environment. If you are not familiar with chess by email you can visit the IECC now.

On the initial initiative of one of the leading IECG members REBEL 8.0
will support chess by email. We will give you now a detailed summery what
    is inside the program.
    The main principle is simple:
    1) REBEL will output (any) of your email games to a text file which contains
a general form + all needed info to send your move to your opponent.
    2) When you receive a new move from your opponent REBEL will read the form
and stores (on request) all information into the database.
The following example shows you what REBEL will output:
      / .\_ * M O V E T R A N S M I S S I O N F O R M *
     | ( ___) for the use of email chess games
     | \ on the Internet

    Remarks on the form...
    1) Only the first time of a game you have to input the key received by
your email organization YOURSELF. The second time REBEL knows the key
while it is stored in the database. If you only play games with some
of your chess friends simply enter an unique number or name which
enables Rebel to recognize and separate all your games.
    2) EMAIL WHITE and EMAIL BLACK are optional. Here you can enter
your own email address and the one of your opponent. Also this is one time
job pro game because REBEL will remember it.
    3) The game played sofar is automatically included in the form in
       standard PGN notation.
    4) The diagram is optional, in REBEL you can choose if you want it written
       to the textfile or not.
    Reading the form...
When you receive a move from your opponent, you simply import the received
textfile with REBEL. You will have the following possibilities:
    1) READ ONLY The game is only loaded in the chessprogram (ready
for analysing or whatever), afterthat you can
save the game in the normal way.
    2) IMPORT IN DATABASE as (1) but with automatic save in the database too.
    3) IMPORT & REWRITE as (1) and (2) but the OLD game is automatically
deleted! The old game is searched in the database
(checks on GAME KEY + white & black name).
If found it will be deleted and the newer game is
                           inserted (very handy!).
The comfort (the technical part) (1)
REBEL 8.0 has two new functions in the Pulldown menu called:
    1) WRITE EMAIL FORM with the following submenus:
    2) LOAD EMAIL FORM with the following submenus:
         READ ONLY
The comfort (the technical part) (2)
While you send and receive so many emails special care is taken for all
file handling. WRITE EMAILFORM will for example write your
upcomimg email to the following SUGGESTED filename(s):
         96_06_24.001 or 96_06_24.002 etc. etc.
Where "96_06_24" is todays date and "001" and "002" are todays follow ups!
In this case all your email is FULLY sorted and easy to search for.
If you do not like this system you simply can type a filename yourself!
The comfort (the technical part) (3)
ALL items of the form are written to the database so information is kept and
can be viewed at any time you need it, meaning:

If you like what you have read sofar it will be a good idea to get fimiliar with REBEL. Here on our home page the free downloadable chess program REBEL DECADE is available.

Although the program is a limited playing strength version of REBEL 6.0 it still plays on a FIDE ELO of 2200-2250 and will give you a reasonable impression what REBEL is.
