In case you have not subscribed your copy of Gandalf 5.0 go to:
http://www.rebel.nl/intsub.htm

= GANDALF 5.1 =

A new stronger version from GANDALF's programmer Steen Suurballe from Denmark offered for free for owners of Gandalf 5.0

New Features:

- New opening book by opening expert Dan Wulff from Denmark.

Download the Gandalf 5.1 update file (6.5 Mb)

Hi Ed!

Thank you very much for this free update :-)

Which files do I need under the Chessbase GUI for Gandalf 5.1 (Under Gandalf 5.1 I can't find Dbchs.key and Dbchs.nam, but I find the new gandalf5.1.cpeini)?

Sincerely Christian Goralski

Hi Christian!

If you need them, you can copy the DBCHS.KEY & DBCHS.NAM files from the original Gandalf 5 installation. Be aware that they are only used by the winboard engine to kibitz the opening clacification when playing on ICC/FICS. They are NOT required in any way, but will be used, if present.

Hey Ed,

Thank you for the update. It will be interesting to evaluate the improvement.

BTW, the features list is a little misleading, ie. mixing engine and book changes with those belonging to the improved adapter.

Regards,
Mogens

I'm a bit puzzled which is the correct configuration file:

I'm seeing

gandalf.ini
gandalf5wb.res
gandalf51wb.res

all in the engines\g51 dir

Also, is it ok to set Gandalf's hashtable to a big size even if it is playing a fast timecontrol?

Lastly (this is more of a request to Ed), would it be possible to make a (slightly) bigger version of the Rebel Pieces set?

That's the init file for the Chessbase WB adapter.

>gandalf5wb.res

Configuration file for 5.0. I deleted the file.

>gandalf51wb.res

Configuration file for 5.1.

You forgot gandalf51.cpeini .

I don't think so. The format looks the same as the .res files. The ChessBase WB adapter file is called 'gandalf51.init'

Ups, sorry. I thought you just spelled it wrong . The Gandalf.ini is the settings for the native engine. If you change hashsize in the GUI, the ini file should reflect this change.
