GANDALF is the newest strong chess program from the Rebel stable.

GANDALF 5.0 comes under a smooth Office alike Windows Interface. Gandalf 5.0 also is Winboard compatible ready to use under every Winboard compatible Interface.

Gandalf 5.0 is strong, clearly stronger than its predecessor version 4.32h.

    CCT4 is a giant computer chess event with 46 participating chess programs who compete online against each other during 2 weekends. Missing top chess programs are CHESS TIGER and REBEL nevertheless it remains a strong field. After the first weekend Gandalf 5.0 is doing very well scoring 4.5 out of 6 while facing multiple processor entries. Full info at the CCT4 page.

  • December 2001: Gandalf 4.32h entered the SSDF computer rating list with a rating of 2653 on a 1200 Mhz PC! The expectations for version 5.0 now are very high!


  • February 2001: GANDALF 4.32h shares the second place in the strong 10th International Computer Chess Championshion in Paderborn Germany. Gandalf scored 7 out of 9 points in this strong field of computers. The first sign a new star is born.



CONTENTS

  • Gandalf 5.0 is released in the latest Rebel Interface.

  • Also included is the latest version of ERT (Engine Research Tool) to play automatic computer-computer matches. ERT is compatible with every Rebel native chess engine (currently Chess Tiger and Gandalf) and over 100 freely downloadable Winboard chess engines available on the Internet, see our special Winboard page. ERT is popular among chess programmers world-wide because they use ERT to improve their chess program as ERT is the program that has the Winboard protocol implemented best.

  • Perfect end-game chess knowledge. Gandalf 5.0 comes with 500 Mb table base data. During installation you are prompted to install the table bases or not. The table bases contain all the 3 and 4 piece end-games and the most important 5 pieces end-game databases. For more info see our perfect end-game chess knowledge page.

  • Gandalf 5.0 is ready to play automatic games over the Internet via the most known chess servers where 10 thousands of people all over the world are playing chess against each other. The most known chess servers, such as ICC and FICS are pre-defined in Gandalf 5.0 and one mouse click is enough to connect and start playing.
