When you enter this option you'll get a new screen with its own pull-down menus and on which the first 20 or 40 games of the database (alphabetically ordered) are visible.
For more information we suggest reading chapter 8.
This makes you enter the PGN-format database that was saved in the REBEL.CFG-file the last time you left the program.
You'll have less possibilities compared to the possibilities of the REBEL database but still:
This option will load the next game of the selection you've made in the database.
If the last game was already loaded you'll receive a message that there is no next game. When there are no games selected, this option will not be available.
This option will load the previous game of the selection you've made in the database.
If the first game was loaded you'll receive a message that there is no previous game. When there are no games selected, this option will not be available.
You will be prompted to input some data belonging to the game to be saved (names, ELO, date, result, some additional text). Attached to the complete game (moves and move comments), this information will be saved into the database.
All items will be pre-filled (see the default bar).

The loaded game will be overwritten by the current game. The original data of the loaded game will be lost. This function is especially useful if you want to make some (minor) changes to existing games, without the need to delete the old game.
For reason of security the original data will be written to "TRASH.DAT", see Delete game. When there are no games selected or only one, this option will not available.
This will delete the current loaded game. You will be prompted to confirm this. For reasons of security the game will written to "TRASH.DAT".
When there are no games selected or only one, this option will not be available.
The comment window will display the extra info on the actual game.
The program will search for games with exactly the same position as the one on the chessboard. REBEL will automatically recognize move transpositions, if relevant. This means that games started with "1.d4 d5 2.Nf3" and "1.Nf3 d5 2.d4" are the same to this search function. This function is very useful for opening preparation.
An EOC (Encyclopedia Of Chess)-file is a file that contains a great number of games that can be consulted by the user as well as by REBEL. If the consult window is activated you can read (at least at the start of a new game) some data (see section Consult window).
The EOC that is supplied to you on CD-ROM contains the data of REBEL's standard database of 300,000 games and are ordered in such a way that REBEL can quickly consult this data. Of course REBEL can do this even faster if the EOC is written on your harddisk. It takes some disk space though. If you want this you have to copy all files with EOC in it.
You can load one of the four clipboard games via this pull-down menu.
You can also load one of these games by either:
You save the current game into one of the four clipboard games via this pulldown menu. You can also:
Your present game will be written to a file in PGN format including comments or analysis. You will be prompted for the name of the (new) PGN-file.
The PGN format is used on the INTERNET. For a detailed instruction on the format refer to the official rules for it.
EPD-files are text files representing chess positions or game fragments. The EPD format has become more and more popular in recent years because it offers the possibility to exchange positions with other programs.
This option gives the possibility to write the current game to an EPD-file and the name of that file is saved into REBEL's memory.
You can choose either to save it into a new file or to add it to an existing one.
The current game is added to the file which name is stored in REBEL's memory. If there is no such name this option will not be available.
The Schröder BV is one of the official sponsors of the International Email Chess Group (IECG). The IECG is an organization (free of charge!) where people play chess by the Internet. This varies from one or two tryout games to serious competitions and big tournaments. The key to all of this is the so called electronic mail (email) which is a normal text file you send to your opponent by the Internet. Within an hour your opponent on the other side of the world will receive your move so it will be quite possible you will receive a responding move the same day! With these fast mail possibilities, playing chess by email on the Internet has become very popular these days.
"Write game to email-file" will write the current game to a text file which you send to your opponent by email. You can choose to send it with or without a diagram.
Reads the email you received from your opponent and imports the game and options.
You can choose to either load it only as a game, or save it the same time in your database or overwrite the corresponding game in your database.
